Why I Don't "Pick One Lane" as a Milwaukee PhotographerFun fact: I’ve been in business for 10 years as of this past January, and over that time I’ve primarily served clients in Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Racine counties. Fashion-inspired senior portraits and my senior model team - aka The Model Collective (shameless plug). Branding sessions and headshots for entrepreneurs. And events: graduations, awards ceremonies, client appreciation days, family reunions, weddings - you name it. For years, I was told the same thing most photographers hear - or tell themselves at some point: pick a lane. Be known for ONE thing. Own it. And I get that advice. I’ve even given that advice. In this industry, being the expert in one specific category is strong positioning. It’s clean branding. It’s a powerful statement. It says, “This is what I do better than anyone.” But here’s the part no one talks about - the part the gurus skip in their free webinars - I actually ENJOY photographing more than one “category.” Senior Portraits, Branding Photography, and Milestone Events in Southeast WisconsinI love working with my high school seniors because they already have a POV. They know what they like. They’re experimenting with who they are and how they want the world to see them. Senior year isn’t just about a yearbook photo - it’s an identity shift. It’s a big deal. It deserves to be celebrated. And for some of them, it might be the last solo spotlight session they ever have. I love working with entrepreneurs and solopreneurs because branding photography isn’t just about getting a decent headshot - although yes, that part matters. It’s about strategy. It’s about aligning your values with how you position yourself in front of your target audience. It’s about creating images that support real business growth and a high ROI, if we’re being honest. I get just as excited talking about brand direction as I do camera gear - trust me. At the end of the day, we’re all business owners trying to design a life and workplace we actually want to be part of. I love that. And then there are the milestone events - promotions, graduations, launches, celebrations - the moments where something shifts. Where someone steps into a new role. Am I known as a kids’ photographer? No. But best believe, I love photographing tweens who are trying a new sport, testing new hobbies, maybe cut their bangs for the first time (ha), and slowly figuring out who they’re becoming. That’s FUN for me. When I really sat with all of this while preparing for 2026, instead of forcing myself into one lane or one neat little label, it kind of hit me in the face. I’m not bouncing between genres. I document my clients’ identities during pivotal life moments. That’s when it clicked** - pun absolutely intended, haha. What is an Identity Milestone Photographer?I’m an Identity Milestone Photographer.
To me, that means I photograph the seasons where who you are shifts, solidifies, or expands. Senior year. Launching a business. Rebranding. Graduating college. Starting middle school. Getting a promotion. Getting married - or getting divorced. Entering a completely new chapter. These aren’t just sessions. They’re markers. They’re proof you’re growing. When you look back at the story of your life, these are the chapters that matter. In an industry that loves neat, orderly categories - senior, branding, family, wedding - I’ve realized my expertise isn’t tied to a genre. It’s tied to transformation. My work has always been fashion-forward, strategic, and experience-driven. Whether I’m photographing a senior in Franklin, a business owner in Milwaukee’s Third Ward, or an extended family documenting generations, the goal stays the same: Capture who you are in this exact season. This idea is changing how I talk about my work and how I approach a session mentally. Because no, I don’t photograph everything. I photograph identity-defining milestones. If you’re in Milwaukee, Oak Creek, Muskego, Brookfield, or anywhere in Southeast Wisconsin and you’re stepping into something new - senior year, a business launch, a college graduation, or a life transition that feels defining - that’s where I thrive. Because those moments aren’t just worth remembering. They’re worth documenting with intention. Hi, I’m Liz - and I’m an Identity Milestone Photographer.
