Identity Milestones in Milwaukee

Senior Portraits, Branding Photography, & Life Transitions

What Makes My Senior Portrait Experience Different?

If you’re looking for a senior photographer in Brookfield, Milwaukee, or Southeast Wisconsin, the biggest difference in my work isn’t just the finished photos. It’s the way the entire senior portrait experience is planned from the beginning.

I’ve started a new venture for myself in the form of volunteering for a great program with Brookfield’s high schools. During our first meeting, one of the students asked me what makes me different from other photographers.

My initial answer? Horribly generic.

I could feel the regret as I said it. It sounded rehearsed. Boring. Exactly what I don’t want to be. So I went home. I ignored my pre-determined to-do list (aside from the important “get back to clients” ones) and decided to actually sit with that question.

Because the next time I’m talking to a prospective client or someone I meet at a networking event, I want to give a fair representation of what I actually do.
So… here we are.

Slightly self-absorbed blog post initiated. Also, apparently I need to be more consistent with blogging in this day and age of optimizing socials and algorithms and 'beep bop boop beeps.'

I digress..

When you start looking for a senior photographer, it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

You’ll see a lot of beautiful images. Different styles, different edits, different locations. While style absolutely matters, it’s not the only thing that determines how your experience feels or what you end up with at the end.
The biggest difference in how I approach senior portraits isn’t just how the images look.

It’s how everything is planned.

It’s Not Just About the Photos. Say it again, then five times fast!!
It’s About the Process. As a PHOTOGRAPHER who LOVES taking photos THE MOST in my (sorry for shouting) business, its' NOT just about the photos.

Most senior sessions are planned forward. You pick a photographer, show up, take photos, and then later try to figure out what to do with them. My process works differently.

I design sessions backward.

Before we ever get to your session, we talk about what actually matters long-term. Where will these images live? What do you want to remember about this season? What do you want it to feel like when you look back on these years? That becomes the starting point. Not, “let’s just take a bunch of photos and hope something works later.”

You Don’t Have to Figure Everything OutOne of the biggest concerns I hear from both seniors and parents is: “I don’t even know where to start.”

That’s completely normal.

You don’t need to know the perfect location. You don’t need to have outfits completely figured out. You don’t need to know how to pose or what will look best.

That’s my role.

I walk you through each decision step by step so you’re not guessing or second-guessing yourself. No spiraling. No 47 open Pinterest tabs trying to make everything “perfect.” We figure it out together.

The Design Visit Changes Everything
For most of my sessions, we start with a Design Visit. This is where we look at your home and talk about where your images could live. Not in a hypothetical way, but in a real, practical way. We’re thinking about:
  • Wall Space
  • Lighting
  • How images will fit into your home
This step makes everything more intentional. Instead of hoping something works later, we’re designing with purpose from the beginning.

It’s Meant to Be Lived With, Not Just Posted.
There’s nothing wrong with sharing your images online. But senior portraits shouldn’t stop there. I prioritize tangible outcomes like:
  • Albums
  • Wall Art
  • Image collections that actually live in your home

Because those are the pieces that last. Not the ones that get posted once and then disappear into your camera roll somewhere between screenshots and random videos.

A Balance of Style and Direction
I love an editorial look. Clean, intentional, and elevated. But I also know that most seniors don’t walk into a session feeling confident right away. That’s why I blend that style with structured direction. I’ll guide you through poses, adjust based on what feels natural, and help you settle into the session so it doesn’t feel forced or awkward. You don’t have to perform. You just have to show up. I’ll take it from there.

The End Result Feels Different
At the end of the day, the goal isn’t just to deliver a gallery of images. It’s to create something that feels like you and actually fits into your life. Most photographers deliver images. I deliver a finished, lived-in result.

Thinking About Senior Photos? If you’re starting to think about senior portraits and feeling unsure where to begin, that’s exactly what this process is designed for. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out. We’ll walk through it together.

End of the day, you don't have to show up perfect - you just have to show up.

.....Now, all this being said, had I given this student this answer she would have fun to ChatGPT - the Gen Z's SparkNotes (IYKYK) - copy/pasted, and instruct it to summarize this nonsense for her, haha.

But, when I think about it, this is the stuff that comes to mind. This is the stuff that matters. And this is the stuff that makes me different.

......Mic Drop.

Too Millennial?!
Shhhhh....

    About Your 'Tog

    Liz is a self-proclaimed nerd.

If it involves magic, elves, fae, dragons, hidden treasure, or the perfectly timed moment of comedic relief, there’s a high chance she’s ready to chat about it with you.

When she’s not behind the camera, Liz is usually planning her next travel adventure with friends (aka co-conspirators), playing video games, reading ALL the fantasy novels, or swimming laps at the pool.

At home she’s supervised by her two cats, Loki and Lucio - who are fairly convinced they run the place. When they’re not sitting in every box, on freshly folded laundry, or zooming at warp speed through hallways and up and down the stairs, they’re usually demanding attention.

Liz can also be found crafting something creative, brainstorming new ideas for her photography business, or connecting with other entrepreneurs and small business owners around Milwaukee.
